Conditions
Depression, Anxiety, & Mind-Body Conditions
Depression, Anxiety, and Mind-Body Conditions focuses on the link between psychological stress and physical health conditions. Dr. Stone believes that it is important to look at the connection between mental and physical symptoms, as one can be the cause of the other and both should be considered simultaneously to help with resolution of symptoms and disease.
Chronic Diseases
Chronic Disease refers to conditions that require ongoing medical attention and/or limit activities of daily living for at least 1 year, possibly longer.
Fatigue
Fatigue is a constant feeling of tiredness or weakness and can be mental and/or physical.
Epigenetics
Epigenetics is the study of how human behaviors and environment can cause changes in how genes work without changing their DNA sequence. These changes begin before birth, persisting throughout life, impacting one’s health along the way. Epigenetic changes can also be reversible, affecting whether and how genes may express the information they carry. It’s an interesting way to look at the “nature vs. nurture” (genes vs. gene expression) question that has long been debated.
Inflammation
Inflammation is generally the immune system’s response to an irritant, such as infections, toxins, or injuries. Inflammation is often at the root of chronic disease and/or pain, and naturopathic medicine works to find underlying causes of inflammation to reverse disease processes.
Gastrointestinal Concerns
Gastrointestinal Concerns can include a broad range of digestive issues including, but not limited to: appetite loss, diarrhea, bloating, cramping, inflammation, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; crohn disease, ulcerative colitis), diverticulitis, heartburn, nausea, etc.
Auto-Immune Conditions & Allergies
Autoimmune Conditions occur when the body can’t tell the difference between your cells and foreign cells, causing the body to mistakenly attack normal cells. In allergies, your body is reacting to a foreign substance. Both of these cause inflammation in the body, and can be reduced or reversed through finding underlying causes.
Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms
Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms are ways in which people manage stress in a manner that ultimately contributes to maladaptive outcomes (e.g., poor health, symptoms). Coping mechanisms may be developed over a lifetime, and may have served a healthy or adaptive purpose at one point in time, that long-term contribute to poor health. There are many examples of this, including: screen/technology use, avoidance, drug/alcohol/sugar use or dependency, overeating, undereating, excessive sleeping, etc.
